About this deal

Of course it goes without saying that the V1 is fully compatible as both a master and a slave with all Godox products made in the last four years. This is one of the core strengths for Godox so it would be unthinkable that their flagship speedlight would not be compatible! The GODOX V1-N flash is designed to provide photographers with an impressive and versatile lighting experience for Nikon Z6ii, Z5, D850, D3500 also other models. With its built-in wireless radio system, the flash offers full TTL support and high-speed sync capabilities. Depending on the lighting situation, it can be adjusted in power from 1/256 to 8 times more powerful, which makes it effective in a variety of lighting situations. Let's talk punch. This is the thing that surprised and impressed me most about this unit. With the perfect round head, even coverage, and softer falloff, I was expecting a significant hit in the power department. Not so. Godox have maintained an almost perfect match to their V860II flash. Godox is going strong with their innovations for flashtechnology they didn't steal it from Nikon because they passed Nikon some years ago allready.

It measures 7.8 by 3.0 by 3.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 1.2 pounds. The flash head tilts and rotates, so you can position it for direct or indirect illumination. If you remember, at the start I said the main reason I rushed out to buy the V1 was because I was hopeful that Godox would fix the weak hotshoe issue that plagued the Godox v860ii for Sony. The battery is a smaller capacity than the ever popular v860ii. I’ve found in practice I’m able to shoot two weddings per charge. Whereas the v860ii, I could easily get through three weddings before having to charge the battery. The included lithium-ion battery now slides into the side of the flash to save a little space and has 480 advertised full-power pops versus the V860's 650. I can't say I've ever needed 300 full power flashes from a speedlight in any given session, let alone 650. So, 480 seems like a good number to me. You can use SB-5000's as on-camera flashes and as optically triggered remotes on CLS-compatible older camera bodies. However, radio control is only available with the D5, D850, D500, D7500, Z6 and Z7, for now. I REALLY wish that Godox had implemented the same system as found on the Adorama Flashpoint R2 Pro Mk2and now the Godox XT-2 transmitter. On those triggers, you just double press the group button and the power goes on/off. It's just so much simpler. Exactly, they still ask premium prices for a product which isn't that (if so) superior to the much cheaper alternative. This Godox V1 review isn't going to be about stats or shooting into bare walls and talking about lighting patterns. It is going to be based wholly on real world use.

Being honest, the only ones I use are the grid and the dome. I don't even take the rest with me now to a wedding. They just sit in the box at home. You can read more about my experiences below. Top Tip - Gels If they'll ever have to file bankrupcy they clearly missed the boat and I'd be prolly be gone long before this might happen. So the biggest feature of the Godox V1 is of course is the round head. This is instead of the more traditional rectangular fresnel head. The ‘advantage’ of the round head is that the lighting pattern is improved with no hot spot in the middle which is normal for a Fresnel head speedlight. Improved interface The battery is rated for up to 480 pops at full power, with a recycle time of 1.5 seconds. Decreasing the output power speeds up these numbers considerably. From experience, firing the flash at ¼ power or lower, it can shoot several times per second.

Rewind]: Godox AD200 Review | One Year and 75 Weddings Later 1. On-Camera Bounce: More Power, Fewer Worries As a matter of fact I think the Nikon Speedlights are really overpriced, especially when comparing with Godox and other brands. Typical first-party flashes in this price range—think Canon Speedlites and Nikon Speedlights—rely on AA batteries for power. The V1 has a removable lithium-ion cell, rated for 480 full-power flashes per charge. A built-in 2.4GHz radio receiver will enable it to be remotely triggered using Godox X1 series triggers. The V1 also features a powerful LED modeling light, a master-slave function and a beautiful user interface to create a high-tech and impressive flash gun. The V1 features HSS up to 1/8000th of a second to capture those incredibly crisp images for fast-moving action and TTL support. The V1 is compatible with the latest and leading camera brands such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, and Panasonic. Compatible with Godox's X-Series triggering system.

The Godox V1 is an on-camera flash head from Godox. Offering a powerful 76Ws of power, as well as approximately 480 full power flashes (which doubles every time the power is halved), the V1 is the perfect companion for on-the-move photographers. This flash features a roundhead, unlike traditional speedlight flashes, that is magnetic for the application of Godox's round head modifiers, such as the AK-R1. The V1 boasts a zoom function of 28-105mm, allowing for you to achieve both a widespread beam, as well as a more spotlight effect. I need a financially healthy Nikon over the course of a longer period of time and buying Nikon accessories helps with that, so I do that rather than complain when they go bankrupt and suddenly I have no support or repair parts for the Nikon gear that I use. The SB700 is a nice but former gen speedlight only capable to do CLS using IR with its limitations. Not the B10 but the B10 plus I wouldn't know why a 500W/s light could not work as a main light for 'normal' use? High-speed sync can be achieved up to 1/8000s, and a first curtain sync allows for creative Nikon photography. The first downside is that the head is not able to zoom quite so much as a regular speedlight. This could be an issue for photographers who use the flash on camera as coverage may not quite be enough on the wide and not concentrated enough on the long end. For example, the Godox V860II zooms from 20mm to 200mm whereas the V1 only zooms from 28mm to 105mm. In practice I always reach for the V1 first. Mainly because of the better UI. To the point that I no longer even take my Godox v860ii with me anymore to weddings. Out of the two, the V1 is the better flash.

I've employed the flash regularly for product photography and other sundries in the seven months I've been using it, and have only had to dig around to find the small charging cradle three or four times. If one can live with the somewhat lesser quality ,let's assume it is, but just wants a speedlight for occasional use the difference in money involved together with the added features is hard to neglect. The V1 includes a dot matrix LCD like we’ve seen on their other models. However, this time the default color is a bright blue that makes the screen easy to read, even in bright daylight. As with the V860, the screen turns orange when slave mode is activated to give you an easy way to know which mode the flash is in. As with other models, the buttons on the flash are context sensitive and their current function is displayed on the screen. This makes it easy to know exactly what the buttons are going to do as you work. Now you may have a particular use case where the round head is an advantage for you. If that's the case then the V1 is for you. But as a wedding photographer, I don't fire bare flash unless I'm desperate.
