About this deal

Built-in preamps allow you to connect microphones and provide phantom power to condenser mics when needed. But they're not just for connectivity because they can also affect the character of the sound and are responsible for keeping noise at bay. MiniFuse 2 has its own Control Centre software and is bundled with an Intro version of Arturia’s excellent Analog Lab, four effects, Native Instruments Guitar Rig LE, and Ableton Live Lite, plus three-month trial subs to Splice Creator and Auto-Tuner Unlimited.

The MIDI connection is great, just like it would be on more high-end interfaces, zero hassle to set it up and get it going. With solid conversion at this price point, we really have no complaints about it. What we really liked about the interface was the inclusion of the on-board DSP. The real benefit is to let the unit run self standing with minimal latency, you can add a few effects while you record as well. We adjusted channels on the DAW side and had a latency free solid output. While Tascam doesn’t really route the DSP like some other budget interfaces (e.g. Audiobox w/ VSL through the monitor) it is still a value added addition. Many of the high end audio interfaces come built in with only 8 analog inputs. But most of them claim to be capable of more than 8 inputs.

In almost all cases, this is achieved through a combination of using the built-in analog inputs and using multi-channel digital inputs that are built in to the device. The most common digital input you’ll see is ADAT (Alesis Digital Audio Tape). It’s just a digital connection that allows 8 digital audio channels to be sent simultaneously. multimode analog outputs include 8 DC-coupled TRS outputs to control synth modules, expression devices, and more analog outputs give you access to a multitude of monitor or outboard processing sends. You can fiddle in detail with your routing using the included Focusrite Control app, which gives you access to all of Clarett's internal features.

SSL 12 is a 12-in/8-out interface, with four XLR combo mic/line inputs with high gain ‘SSL-designed’ mic preamps (including a +48v option for using condenser mics). Two inputs at the front can be poached for recording hi-Z instruments like guitars, bass, or vintage instruments. You get four balanced outputs and two sets of headphone outs. The extra eight inputs come by way of an ADAT connection. Before we dive headfirst into the features of each one, it's worth noting that some interfaces are described as having 16, 24, or more, simultaneous inputs. While the blurb isn't an outright lie, often the total number includes an ADAT or other digital audio input, as well as the analog connections. This audio interface ships with a copy of Studio One Artist, and the Studio Magic Plug-in suite. Between them, they'll give you everything you need to start recording. If you already have your DAW of choice the software bundle will be of little value to you, but this is still a solid USB audio interface, delivering some of the best audio in its class. The transport controls were responsive to my DAW and punching in recordings felt faster. At this point, any marginal improvement to my workflow is a major improvement to my overall production so the ioSTATION 24c wins my vote in that regard. This guide aims to simplify your decision-making process, helping you pinpoint audio interfaces that merit your consideration. Our recommendations are founded on a collective wealth of experience and thorough scrutiny of pertinent review sources, including valuable insights from forum discussions. Furthermore, we offer detailed insights into the characteristics of each selected product. One of the standout features of the Octa-Capture is its eight premium preamps, making it suitable for recording multiple instruments simultaneously. The Auto-Sens feature optimizes input levels, streamlining the recording process. The Versatile Software (VS) enhances the overall recording experience. Additionally, powerful computer setups report near-zero latency, allowing for real-time monitoring during recording, while custom mixes for individual musicians are crucial for collaborative recording sessions. Standalone design allows you to manage audio sources, as well as Class Compliant MIDI devices through USB or 5-pin DIN for uncompromising control without the need for a computer As expected, the mic preamps had a crisp, clear, and bright sound. Very transparent and quiet. The input frequency response for the plugged-in semi-acoustic guitar was also flat. We had to test the mic for our Taylor 724ce too and wanted to see it capture the undertones. Well, it wasn’t entirely flawless since some of the mid-range frequencies sounded a bit muffled but it was more about our mic placement. Also, with the number of ports, this is an excellent interface to mic a drumset. However, we did feel the latency going up slightly as we turned on all the inputs simultaneously. The Faderport side has a motorized fader, individual buttons for solo, mute, arm, a multi-function knob, and more. A transport control cluster rounds out the front panel of the ioSTATION 24c.
